Project Coordination

The European Union Satellite Centre (SatCen) is an Agency of the European Union. It is one of the key institutions for the European Union’s Security and Defence policy, and the only one in the field of space. The mission of the SatCen is to support the decision-making of the European Union by providing analysis of satellite imagery and collateral data. The SatCen has considerable experience in Copernicus projects under FP7, such as LIMES, TANGO, BOSS4GMES, G-MOSAIC and SAFER. The SatCen also responds to the needs of a community of users including the 27 Member States as well as the EU Operations in the frame of the CSDP (Common Security and Defence Policy), for example NAVFOR ATALANTA.

As the Project Coordinator, the SatCen is responsible for overall project management and also holds leadership of activities concerning the analysis of governance options and stakeholder coordination.

Project Partners

e-GEOS S.p.A is a company jointly owned by Telespazio (80%) and ASI (20%). e-GEOS is a leading international player in the geospatial business, and offers a complete range of products and services in the Earth Observation and in the geospatial application domains, based on optical and radar satellites as well as on aerial surveys. e-GEOS owns and operates the multi-mission station located at the Matera Space Centre, where data from several Earth Observation satellites (COSMO-SkyMed, Envisat, ERS-2, Radarsat-1 and -2, and others) are downlinked and processed both for commercial services and services to the Italian Space Agency and the European Space Agency. The company also owns the GeoEye-1 and IKONOS imaging and processing facility in Neustrelitz, which is operated through Euromap and the German Aerospace Agency (DLR).

Fondation pour la Recherche Strategique (FRS), based in Paris, is a prominent independent French research institution in the field of Security and Defence. As a public-interest foundation, it has two core missions: promoting the national public debate on strategic issues related to Security and Defence, and carrying out research in the this field with the aim of offering independent expertise to interested decision-makers, whether public or private. The FRS has developed a particular expertise on the relationship between strategy and advanced technology-related issues.

GMV Aerospace and Defence S.A. Unipersonal is a private Spanish company devoted to consultancy, engineering, software development and systems integration for the Aerospace and Defence sectors. Since 1984, GMV has provided solutions for Space in the areas of global navigation satellite systems and applications, flight dynamics, satellite control centres, mission analysis, mission planning and scheduling, payload data segments, science operations centres, user segments and Space applications, satellite communications, simulation, systems engineering and GNC, and on-board and embedded software. GMV’s Science and Earth Observation Data Processing Division (SEOPS) hold extensive experience of the Copernicus and GSE programmes.

(part of the GEO-Information Division of Astrium Services) specialises in the application and management of geospatial information and providing a service from collection through processing and analysis to hosting and dissemination. Core competencies include the acquisition and processing of data from both aerial and satellite platforms through a variety of sensors including optical, hyper-spectral, thermal, and LiDAR. Infoterra has over 300 highly skilled staff in the UK, 60% holding graduate and post graduate qualifications or research experience, and including experts in geographical information systems (GIS), environmental monitoring and management, agriculture, forestry, cartography (digital mapping), military mapping, data management, telecommunications and geological exploration.

Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI), a non-profit organisation, is funded by individual and corporate members, public and private organisations, international foundations, and by a grant from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Institute's objective is twofold: on the one hand promoting an understanding of the problems of international politics (through studies, research, conferences and publications); and on the other  increasing the opportunities for European integration by the same means, and by taking part in European funded projects.

The Space Research Centre of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Centrum Badan Kosmicznych Polskiej Akademii Nauk, or CBK) conducts pure and applied Space-related research, with a focus on the physics of the Solar System and the development of space and satellite instrumentation technology. The Centre’s key areas of activity are scientific and technological research, applications, and education. The main products of the Center are scientific outcomes, space mission hardware, and market applications.

SpaceTec Partners sprl (STP) is a subsidiary of Munich-based SpaceTec Capital Partners GmbH. SpaceTec Capital Partners is a consultancy and investment company with a focus on Space, geo-information and Security. Brussels-based SpaceTec Partners provides consulting services on satellite applications (Earth Observation, SatCom and SatNav) with a strong emphasis on European Copernicus-related projects. SpaceTec Partners’ business includes service contracts with European institutions and FP7 projects.
